Treatment

Gynecologic Care HammondAt North Oaks Obstetrics & Gynecology, we offer specialized in treatment for a wide range of gynecologic conditions. Our team is fully trained and experienced to handle any type of issue you may be experiencing, and will do their best to provide the best possible results. We have experience in treating women of all ages for conditions such as endometriosis, infection, incontinence, infertility and more.

We also treat many conditions associated with menstruation, pregnancy and menopause. These major phases in each woman's life often require special care as symptoms and complications may arise. Our doctors are experienced in treating many conditions associated with these stages and encourage patients to make an appointment if they are experiencing symptoms or abnormalities. Many of these conditions can be easily treated through noninvasive methods.

In-Office Laboratory

Our office is fully equipped with the most advanced equipment to provide comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services. We also have an in-office laboratory used to perform diagnostic tests such as ultrasounds, blood tests and more. The convenience of our lab eliminates much of the hassle patients experience when using outside labs, and helps us get effective results on a timely basis. Patients are often able to get all of their necessary lab work done within one visit, without having to travel to multiple locations.

Some of the conditions we treat include:

Abnormal / Excessive Vaginal Bleeding

Most women experience abnormal vaginal bleeding at some point in their life in the form of unusually light or heavy menstrual periods or spotting in between periods. While this condition is not usually serious, it may indicate a complication with pregnancy, polycystic ovary syndrome or an infection. In women over 40, abnormal bleeding may indicate the beginning of perimenopause.

Our doctors will perform a series of diagnostic tests to determine the cause of your abnormal bleeding, and will then take the necessary steps to treat it. Treatment for abnormal bleeding depends on the cause but may include medication, dilation and curettage or surgery.

Abnormal Pap Smears

An abnormal Pap smear doesn't necessarily indicate a condition like HPV or cervical cancer. Pap smears are constructed to detect any changes within the cervical cells, and abnormal results may indicate other conditions such as inflammation, hyperkeratosis, or atypical squamous or glandular cells. False positives are also common from Pap smears, but we take every precaution we can to ensure your health.

Your doctor may perform a colposcopy after abnormal cells are found in order to examine the cervix more closely and take a biopsy of any abnormal tissues. Any necessary treatment will be performed after further examination.

Infertility

Infertility Treatment | HammondInfertility is a problem that plagues many couples trying to conceive, and is considered to be an issue when couples are unable to get pregnant after a year of trying or suffer from repeated miscarriages. Our doctors understand the importance of trying to conceive, and will work closely with women and their partners to determine the source of infertility and develop the most effective treatment plan for you.

Fertility problems in women may be the result of ovulation disorders, blocked fallopian tubes or uterine fibroids. We will do our best to identify these issues and treat them to increase your chances of conception.

PMS / PMDD

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) are common conditions that affect three out of four women at some point in their lives. These conditions are associated with symptoms related to menstrual periods and can include bloating, cramping, fatigue, moodiness, sleep irregularity, depression and more.

While there is no official diagnosis for these conditions, the symptoms can usually be treated by practicing a healthy lifestyle, reducing stress and taking birth control pills. More severe cases may benefit from anti-depressants or counseling as well.
